Your First Flight Starts Here

Ever looked up at a small plane and wondered what it would feel like to be the one flying it? A discovery flight is how you find out. It is a short introductory flight where you take the controls with an instructor right beside you, and by the end of it you will know one way or another whether this is something you want to chase. No commitment, no pressure, just you, the airplane, and the sky.

Some people take a discovery flight because they are seriously considering lessons and want to try it before they commit. Some people get one as a gift and have no idea yet that it is about to become their favorite hobby, or their whole career. Either way, this is the flight that starts it all.

What Actually Happens

We start on the ground. Before we ever get near the airplane, I will walk you through what to expect, how the flight will go, and the basics of what you are looking at when you get in. This is not a lecture, it is just enough so that once we are airborne, you know what is happening and why.

Then we fly. Once we are at altitude, the airplane is yours. I will show you how to bank into a turn, hold an altitude, and get a feel for how the airplane responds to your hands. You will not just be a passenger watching the scenery, you will be the one flying it, with me right there the entire time in case you want to hand it back, ask a question, or just take a break and look out the window for a minute.

We wrap up with a debrief back on the ground. We will talk about how it felt, answer whatever questions came up in the air, and if you want to talk about what comes next, that is exactly what this conversation is for.

Does It Count Toward Anything?

Yes. If you decide to continue training after your discovery flight, the flight time you build today can be logged toward your private pilot certificate. This is not just a taste, it is a real first step. Nothing about today is wasted, whether you fly again tomorrow or come back in a year.

A Great Gift, Even If They Don't Know It Yet

A discovery flight is one of the best gifts you can give someone who has ever said "I've always wanted to learn to fly" and never done anything about it. It does not require them to commit to anything, and it might just be the nudge that changes their life. If you are buying this for someone else, let me know and I will make sure they have everything they need on the day of their flight.

What to Expect

Weather. Flying depends on weather, and safety always comes first. If conditions are not suitable on your scheduled day, we will reschedule at no cost to you. This happens occasionally, and it is never a reason to worry, it just means we do it right.

What to bring. Comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes, and sunglasses if you have them. Bring your phone or a camera if you want pictures, you will want them.

Who it's for. Anyone curious enough to try it. You do not need any experience, any specific fitness level, or any idea of whether you want to become a pilot. Curiosity is the only requirement.

FAQS

Do I actually get to fly the plane?

Yes. Once we are at a safe altitude, the controls are yours. I am there the entire time and can take over instantly if needed, but the flying is genuinely yours to do.

Is there an age or weight limit?

There is no strict minimum age, though most passengers are old enough to understand and follow instructions, generally [X] and up. Weight and size are limited by the aircraft's seating and weight and balance, so let me know your details when you book and I will confirm you're a good fit for this aircraft.

What if the weather doesn't cooperate?

We reschedule, no charge, no hassle. Aviation runs on good judgment about weather, and that protects you too.

Can this go toward my pilot certificate?

Yes, the flight time is loggable and counts toward your private pilot certificate if you choose to continue.

I'm nervous. Is that normal?

Completely. Almost everyone is a little nervous beforehand and grinning ear to ear afterward. I will walk you through everything before we go, and you are never doing anything you are not ready for.

Do I need a medical certificate or any paperwork?

No. A discovery flight requires nothing from you but a little curiosity and a willingness to try something new.
